새 학기가 시작되어, 아랍 에미레이트로 먼저 돌아간 남편이, 드디어 올 것이 왔냐는 제 물음에, 여긴 당연히 아직 목요일, 아랍 시간으로도 아직 목요일, 한국 시간은 아랍보다 다섯 시간이 먼저 가니 이미 금요일이 되어 있을 시간인가, 올 것이 왔다며 보낸 이메일입니다. 뭔 소린지 알 수가 없으시단 말씀은 아직 하지 말아 주세요. 



드디어 2006년 9월 1일. 이 날이 무슨 날인지는 물론 기억 안 나실 겁니다. 아랍 에미레이트의 주말이 목, 금요일에서 금, 토요일로 바뀌도록 예정된 첫 날이지요. 대혼란이 예견된 새로운 '시케줄'이 드디어 막을 올린답니다. 다음 글을 안 읽으신 분은 먼저 읽고 영문 이메일을 읽으시면 해독이 가능할지 안 할지는 저도 장담 못합니다. ^^

Yes, today is Thursday, which used to be Wednesday, which means tomorrow is Friday, which used to be Sunday there, but now it's Saturday, so I have two days off, Friday and Saturday, which used to be Monday there. I'll go back to work on Sunday, which used to be Saturday here and Tuesday there, but it's the new Monday here now--or is it Saturday again? Anyway, I have some classes on Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday, and some on Monday/Wednesday now, and beginning tomorrow, the official weekend is Friday/Saturday instead of Thursday/Friday as it used to be here or Saturday/Sunday as it still is there. And of course, this will all change when Ramadan begins in a few weeks. Whew! TGIT for now.
